Advanced Child Protection Update Training (Multi-agency)

This is a one-day course that is designed to meet the requirements of those practitioners who have previous experience in a safeguarding role and whose agency is not subject to improvement actions as a result of inspection.

The Course is also suitable for health professionals working towards your level 3, those who have completed the Advanced Child Protection (Inter-Agency) within the last two years and Registered Childminders who have completed the Introduction to Child Protection course in the last two years replaces the previous standalone “Child Protection for the Designated Lead Role for the Childminder” training.

This course serves as the Update course required every 2 years for all people who hold a designated lead role.


To qualify to attend this training you must have completed either the 2 Day Advanced Child Protection or Advanced Child Protection Update Training within the last 2 years.

Aims

  • This course will provide an opportunity for participants who have already undertaken the Introduction to Child Protection training to improve their understanding and knowledge of their own and other’s responsibilities.
  • It will be an opportunity to explore with colleagues from other organisations the challenges and benefits that exist in working in a multi-agency system and to promote and improve inter-agency best practice.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course participants will:

  • Reinforce understanding of current legislation, policies, procedures and best practice in safeguarding.
  • Increase confidence in utilising local tools and resources to support practice.
  • Continue to develop knowledge and understanding of emerging safeguarding areas such as trauma informed care and extra-familial harm.
  • Continue to learn from Local Case Reviews and enhance best practice accordingly.

Cascade Training Pack

This pack is designed for in-house group delivery. 

The Annual Basic Awareness Child Protection (Single Agency) Cascade Training Pack is designed to help schools adhere to statutory guidance and provide all teaching staff with foundation knowledge of identifying the forms and signs of abuse and how to report this within the school, as well as provide annual safeguarding updates from learning and changes to legislation and guidance.

The pack is designed to provide safeguarding leads with the presentation, comprehensive facilitation notes and resources and links to deliver the training to their teams and is designed to run within the academic year (Sept 2024 – July 2025).

 

Cascade Pack Overview

This Basic Awareness workshop is intended as single agency training and does NOT equate to any of the Inter-agency training agreed between all Safeguarding Partnerships across the Avon & Somerset region.

To be accredited by Somerset SSCP, this 3.5 hour basic awareness cascade training pack should be delivered in its entirety. The timings provided on the lesson plan are for guidance.

 

Important!

The individual purchasing this cascade pack will be provided with a licence to deliver the training, however the training must not be transferred to any other individual for delivery across multiple settings. If you are part of a MAT or have multiple settings across your organisation, please note that you will be required to purchase a pack per licenced person delivering the training.

Introduction Child Protection Training (Multi-agency)

Aims

  • To provide an introductory level of knowledge and understanding about child abuse.
  • To provide a local and national perspective, and to know what to do if you suspect that a child is being abused.

 

Learning Outcomes

  • Develop a deeper understanding of child abuse, to include FGM, Criminal and Sexual Exploitation, Radicalisation and the associated signs and symptoms.
  • Have a greater awareness of the additional vulnerabilities of children who are looked after and those with additional needs.
  • Consider how parental mental ill health and substance abuse can impact on children’s wellbeing (including Fabricated Induced Illness (FII).
  • Gain an awareness of how extra-familial harm also puts children at risk, including abuse from peers and online risks.

Paediatric First Aid

Level: Three             

Duration:  Two-day course

Target audience: Anyone in an early years setting working with children and babies.

  • Care and Communication Reporting and Recording, First Aid Kits.
  • Treating an Unconscious Baby/Child Baby/Child CPR.
  • Asthma, Choking, Bleeding and Shock.
  • Burns and Scalds, Anaphylactic Shock.
  • Head/Neck/Spinal Injuries, Convulsions, Poisons.
  • Eye Injuries, Fractures, Hypoglycaemia, Hyperventilation, Childhood Illnesses and Open Forum.

 

The course duration is 12hrs and a certificate lasting three years

will be awarded on successful completion of the course.

This course is suitable for anyone working with children and babies and

satisfies OFSTED EYFS requirements.

Course Outline:

Statutory Guidance continues to require a minimum of one member of any recruitment panel to have undertaken safer recruitment training.

Using the DfE authorised materials from the Lucy Faithfull Foundation, and delivered by accredited trainers, this programme explores the background and context of safer recruitment, defines a safe recruitment process and considers a strategy for maintaining a culture of safeguarding in organisations.

Participants must complete the whole day’s programme and all the included exercises and topic assessments to be awarded certification.

Course Description: 

Participants gain the skills they need to ensure that safeguarding is at the heart of their recruitment decisions. By the end of our one-day course, participants will have:

  • Identified key features of staff recruitment that help deter or prevent the appointment of unsuitable people
  • Considered policies and practices that minimise opportunities for abuse or ensure its prompt reporting
  • Begun to review their own organisation’s policies and practices with a view to creating a safer culture.
